Rebuilding Connection Together

Everyone deserves to find fulfillment in their relationships. This being said, it is normal to experience moments where one or both of you feel distant, hurt, or misunderstood. At Equilibrium Psychotherapy, we believe a good relationship isn't one where everything feels perfect all the time. It is one where both people are motivated and engaged in the process of moving through a challenge together.

Every therapist at Equilibrium is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with specialized training and experience in uniting couples through the rough patches. Though every client's challenges may look different, they all begin with the same truth: they're ready for change, and we're here to support you through it. We encourage you to explore our team and schedule a consultation with the therapist who feels like the right fit for you and your relationship.

For our couples located in the Madison area, including Middleton, Fitchburg, Sun Prairie, Verona, and Monona, we offer in-person services at our offices located just off the belt-line on the near West Side of Madison. We also offer telehealth services for those who prefer the comfort of home or are located outside the Madison area.

Common Questions About Couples Therapy

Do both partners need to attend couples therapy?

While it's ideal for both partners to attend, one partner can still benefit and create positive change. However, couples therapy is most effective when both partners are present and engaged. If your partner is hesitant, we can help navigate that conversation.

What if my partner doesn't think we need therapy?

This is common. One partner often recognizes the need first. You can start by expressing your feelings and concerns, explaining why therapy is important to you. Sometimes attending an initial consultation together can help a hesitant partner see the value. We can also help facilitate this conversation.

Will the therapist take sides?

At Equilibrium, we remain neutral and create a safe space where both partners feel heard and understood. Our goal is to support your relationship as a whole, not to take sides. We're here to help you both work together toward your relationship goals while honoring each person's perspective and experience.

How long does couples therapy take?

Many couples begin to see meaningful progress within 6 sessions. However, the timeline varies based on your unique concerns and goals. Some couples continue longer for deeper work—especially when addressing complex issues like infidelity recovery or long-standing patterns. We'll regularly check in with you about progress and adjust as needed.
